For the last years we've got rewarding experience in addition to well organized technology of production. As a result of fundamental research and actual manufacturing practice, today we can finally introduce own recumbent bike seats of several well-known models.
Each seat produced by Velodreamer-HPV is of the same highest quality as well as made of high grade materials. Why? → Because we use our own seats too!
In the first place we are sure that seat or saddle is the basis of every recumbent bicycle. As a matter of fact, rider's comfort depends directly on form of seat. If you are not feeling comfortable while using your recumbent bike seat, an extensive trip will probably bring you nothing but torment. Especially when it's a few days' ride.
That’s actually the reason why we started to produce own seats.
Our first experiments with metal frame seats and belt-based seats showed that recumbent bike seats should have anatomic shape. Furthermore, a seat should be made in full accordance with balance between hardness and softness.
In the process of pedalling seat's bottom part plays role of lumbar rest. Therefore, it must hold its shape under load. We were hardcore fans of racing (incumbent) riding position for rather long time. When it came the time to create our first mold form for serial production we had taken namely the racing riding position as a basis.
Anatomic shape recumbent bike seat + seat pad
ANATOMIC SHAPE RECUMBENT BIKE SEAT has not only advantages but also disadvantages. Main disadvantage of this kind of seats appears due to individual differences in anatomical organization of riders. Same seat could fit one rider and be totally uncomfortable for another one. To solve this issue without taking individual casts of each customer's back was pretty easy. We just decided to increase the thickness of soft layer which covers plastic carcass of a seat. Polyurethane foam takes the form of body when plastic gives proper rest as well as holds the shape of seat.
We had designed COMFORT SEAT PAD for this model. The plastic part keeps you body in a right position even in relaxed condition. Recumbent riding position requires paying special attention to headrest. As far as seat back is not vertical, it is very tiring for rider to keep his neck during extensive trips.
We had spent much time riding our own recumbent bikes while testing different constructions before we have found an optimal form for a seat. Also, we have found right degree of stiffness and mounting angle for HEADREST that allows to avoid neck fatigue while travelling.
For a DIY recumbent bike construction much better to use a seat with big 3D rib stiffeners. Due to inherent rigidity of such seat, it is really easy to attach them to bike frame at only two places (with 4 MB bolts for each place). Herewith the seat do not bend under a strain of body at all! This gives rider an opportunity to choose a form of frame much more freely.
Furthermore, you can use a special seat angle adjusting fixators. This kind of seat consists of several layers and requires handwork only owing to a few steps of plastic laying.
Sunrider recumbent bike seats
SUNRIDER RECUMBENT BIKE SEAT had been designed for solid plastic molding. This is two dimensional kind of recumbent bike seats with no cavities inside. It has smaller rigidity than seats of the first type. However, this form of seat was tested by such brands as Flevo Bike for many years. We make this kind of recumbent bike seats using composite plastic, also by hand. But this production technology is quite simple and less labor intensive.
This form of seat is well-known among thousands of users. It should be noted that Sunrider seat requires 3 support points on frame while designing recumbent bike. As a result, it makes construction of frame much more dependent on seat and influences seat angle adjustment (these seats do not have adjustment, therefore they are mounted rigidly to frame).
The key advantage of Sunrider bike seat is absence of overhanging stiffening ribs. This gives a possibility to provide a path for chain higher making an arrangement of your vehicle more tight. It is very important especially while building a trike when taking down of transmission leads to road clearance reduction.
